Since the year 1992 he is been performing on the “All India Radio”.

In the year 1963 he presented his Research Thesis on his chosen topic “Gwalior Gharana” and was honored with “Doctorate in Music” by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal in which he stood 1st in India. This achievement came at an early age of 25.

He sings various types which are considered to be an integral part of classical music such as Khayal, Thumri, Tarana, Tappa, Bhajans, etc.

He performed in the lights of some eminent personalities like Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri in the year 1964, Shri. Bramhanand Reddy, Shri. Morarji Desai in the year 1968 and recently Shri. Shankaracharya of Sringeri peetham.

Dr. Marathe has performed jugalbandis in many concerts with Late Pt. Chaturbhuj Rathod, father of Music director Shravan Rathod and singer Roopkumar Rathod from 1959-1987. He has also performed in jugalbandis with Late Ustad Ghulam Khwaja.


He still performs in the concerts with lot of energy and zeal.

From 1974-1989, he use to give training to students in Mumbai too. Dr. Marathe was accompanied by many great maestros on Tabla like Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Pt. Sadashiv Pawar, Pt. Madan Mishra, Pt. Lalji Gokhle, Ustad Shafat Ahmed and many more and on Harmonium by Pt. Appasaheb Jalgaonkar, Pt Sriram Shahpurkar and on Violin by Ustad Faiyaz Hussain Khan.

He was a secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalay Mandal from 1996-1998 and currently running a music institute at Rasta peth which was started by his father in the year 1935 and an institute at Warje which was started in the year 1998 inaugurated by a Padmashri recipient and a noted Sitar maestro Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan.
